Requirements for studying Law

For Undergraduate Law Degrees (LLB):

  • Academic Requirements:
    • A levels or equivalent qualifications such as Scottish Highers, International Baccalaureate, or BTEC Level 3 qualifications.
    • Typical A level subjects that are useful include English Literature, History, Politics, or other essay-based subjects.
    • Most universities require at least three A levels.
  • GCSEs:
    • Often, universities will require a minimum of GCSEs at grade A-C/9-4, including English and Maths.
  • Entry Tests:
    • Some universities may require the LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law) as part of the application process. This is particularly common for top law schools.
    • The LNAT assesses critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Personal Statement:
    • A well-written personal statement outlining your interest in law, relevant experiences, and skills.
  • Interview:
    • Some universities may require an interview as part of the application process.
    • Some universities may have additional requirements or recommendations, such as relevant work experience or extracurricular activities related to law.
